Education Minister is reforming the examination and assessment systems
The Caretaker Federal Minister for Education and Professional Training, Madad Ali Sindhi, emphasized a crucial shift in educational examinations and assessments to match the demands of the modern technological age. Speaking at the inaugural session of the 2-day IBCC 1st Annual Conference titled “Examination and Assessment Practices in Pakistan,” he highlighted the significance of redefining these systems to promote critical thinking, creative abilities, and the practical application of knowledge.
Addressing a diverse audience comprising vice-chancellors, educational board chairpersons, academicians, faculty, and students at a private university, Madad Ali Sindhi noted the rapid transformation in global educational scenarios due to extensive research and technological advancements. He stressed the urgency for Pakistan to adapt its examination and assessment methodologies accordingly.
Emphasizing the integration of advanced technologies in assessments, the minister underscored the potential of digital tools to enhance the educational system’s quality. He also emphasized the pivotal role of upholding fairness, honesty, and transparency standards in these systems.
Highlighting three fundamental factors—enhanced curriculum, well-trained teaching staff, and a nurturing environment—as crucial for Pakistan’s progress, Madad Ali Sindhi expressed disappointment that education had often been sidelined in previous government policies and electoral manifestos.
As the nation approached general elections, he urged political parties to prioritize education, alongside the economy, healthcare, and clean drinking water, in their manifestos, emphasizing the collective responsibility to address these vital issues.
Expressing optimism, he anticipated that the conference on examination and assessment would serve as a platform for stakeholders to discuss future challenges, chart a course for progress, and drive significant transformations in the country’s educational landscape.
Executive Director of IBCC, Professor Dr. Ghulam Ali Mallah, echoed the need to enhance educational standards and assessments. He labeled the maiden IBCC conference as the initial step in this direction, envisioning it as an annual event aimed at fostering unanimity among educational boards to ensure consistency in the national educational system.
