GB students receive undergraduate scholarships from HEC
The committee overseeing the undergraduate scholarship program for Gilgit-Baltistan convened at the Higher Education Commission (HEC) Secretariat to finalize the selection of the third cohort of students set to pursue their undergraduate studies across various public sector universities in Pakistan.
Chaired by Executive Director HEC Dr. Zia Ul-Qayyum, the meeting held recently, included attendees such as the Vice Chancellors of Karakoram International University Gilgit, Dr. Atta Ullah Shah, and University of Baltistan Skardu, Dr. Muhammad Naeem Khan. Also present were officials from HEC, the Planning Commission, the Directorate of Education (Colleges), and the Project Director for GB Scholarships.
For this latest batch, HEC advertised the scholarship in August 2023 and conducted the test in November. From the applicants, a total of 100 students, including 37 female students, were provisionally selected based on merit.
This undergraduate scholarship program for GB students is a pivotal component of the developmental initiatives for Gilgit Baltistan. Its primary aim is to extend financial support to students from GB pursuing undergraduate studies at HEC-recognized public sector universities in Pakistan. Launched in 2021, the program has already supported 275 students in their educational pursuits.
