Karachi Medical and Dental College Implements Drastic Fee Surge for MBBS and BDS Programs

The Karachi Medical and Dental College (KMDC) has announced an unprecedented increase, surpassing 150%, in the fees for MBBS and BDS programs. Dr. Nargis Anjum, the principal of KMDC, confirmed the fee hike through an official notification following approval from the KMDC’s governing body chaired by Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab.

The notification outlines substantial fee adjustments across various categories. Open merit admission fees have risen from Rs. 30,000 to Rs. 50,000, while tuition and library fees surged from Rs. 50,000 to Rs. 117,600 and Rs. 3,500 to Rs. 10,000, respectively.

Further changes include an increase in student activity/social fees to Rs. 10,000 from Rs. 8,000. The institution introduced development charges of Rs. 30,000, a laboratory fee of Rs. 10,000, and an IT fee of Rs. 5,000.

Significantly, fees for merit seats spiked to Rs. 268,600, compared to Rs. 101,500 in the previous year. Similarly, the self-finance section experienced a substantial rise, with admission fees escalating from Rs. 20,000 to Rs. 100,000.

Tuition fees doubled from Rs. 600,000 to Rs. 1.2 million, while transport fees surged from Rs. 20,000 to Rs. 36,000. Moreover, self-finance seat fees skyrocketed from Rs. 651,500 to a staggering Rs. 1,421,000.
