President Upset by HEC’s Degree Attestation Delay, Orders Probe
President Dr. Arif Alvi Displeased Over HEC Degree Attestation Delay, Orders Probe
President Dr. Arif Alvi expressed dissatisfaction with the Higher Education Commission (HEC) for the delay in attesting a former student’s degree, citing inadequate reasons. Upholding Wafaqi Mohtasib’s directive to attest the degree within seven days, the President also called for an inquiry into the responsible official’s actions that caused the student months of delay.
Rejecting HEC’s appeal against the Wafaqi Mohtasib’s decision, President Alvi highlighted the case of Savera Afridi. She applied to HEC to attest her BA degree and DMC but was informed that her 2020 session degree couldn’t be attested due to HEC’s phase-out of the two-year conventional B.A/B.Sc. program after 2019.
Feeling aggrieved, Afridi approached the Wafaqi Mohtasib, who ruled in her favor. Despite HEC’s representation and the review petition’s rejection, the Commission filed a representation with the President. After a personal hearing, President Alvi upheld Mohtasib’s decision, citing Afridi’s admission in the 2019-2020 session at the University of Peshawar, supported by a university letter dated 01.09.2022.
President Alvi emphasized that the student shouldn’t bear the brunt of university or HEC lapses. He criticized HEC’s inaction against the university, leading to unnecessary hardship for Afridi without fault on her part. He urged HEC to hold universities accountable and ensure students don’t suffer due to administrative lapses, rejecting HEC’s representation.
