Schools and Colleges, Winter Holiday Extension Decision
“LHC Extends Winter Break Due to Smog: Education Department Ordered to Notify”
Following a succinct initial order, the Lahore High Court (LHC) issued a detailed verdict extending winter vacations owing to severe smog conditions. Justice Shahid Karim instructed the Punjab Education Department via a comprehensive two-page directive to officially announce the extension for all educational institutions, including schools and colleges.
This decision was prompted by the LHC’s response to petitions addressing the escalating smog crisis, mandating an additional week of winter vacations. Prior to court intervention, the Punjab government had already implemented a schedule of three off days per week for schools in Lahore due to severe smog.
These measures were enacted in line with previous court orders aimed at alleviating the smog’s impact on air quality. The dense smog prevalent during the early winter days has been linked to various factors, including vehicle emissions, industrial activities, and the burning of crop residues.
