“PTA and HEC Join Forces to Combat Blasphemy on Social Media”
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and the Higher Education Commission (HEC) have aligned their efforts to raise awareness and prevent blasphemous activities on the internet and social media. Both Chairmen, Major General (Retd) Hafeez ur Rehman of PTA and Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed of HEC, emphasized spreading this message throughout universities’ administration, faculty, and students to combat this societal issue.
Their objective is to engage universities in eradicating this menace by encouraging their active involvement. The collaboration aims for robust academic ventures and joint efforts to maximize their impact.
PTA has engaged with religious scholars and international bodies like UNICEF, TikTok, and Telenor Pakistan in addressing responsible cyberspace use. Major General (Retd) Hafeez ur Rehman affirmed PTA’s dedication to managing challenges associated with cyberspace usage.
This collaboration intends to curb the circulation of unlawful content online, especially among the youth, redirecting their engagement toward productive online activities.
Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed praised PTA’s steps toward promoting safe internet use and highlighted HEC’s initiatives like the Pakistan Education Research Network (PERN) and the establishment of smart classrooms. These endeavors aim to educate stakeholders, particularly the youth, on responsible cyberspace usage. Both entities pledged continued support for issues aligned with national interests.
