Governor Punjab to enforce HEC Policy on Sexual Harassment of Women

Punjab Governor Balighur Rehman has emphasized the importance of fully implementing the Higher Education Commission’s (HEC) policy to safeguard women from harassment in educational institutions.

He was speaking with Fauzia Waqar, the Federal Ombudsperson for the Protection of Women at Workplace, who visited him at the Governor House on Saturday.

The governor stated that protecting women from harassment in educational institutions and the workplace is critical to their empowerment.

He stated that the Protection Against Harassment Act of 2010 gave women legal protection and aimed to create a safe working environment for them.

He stated that as chancellor, he had given explicit orders to the university administration to follow the HEC policy to the word and spirit to create a harassment-free environment for female students.

According to Fauzia Waqar, women must be aware of the laws against harassment in educational institutions and the workplace.

She stated that her office was also involved in giving justice to women in matters involving their right to inheritance.

Meanwhile, on the ninth anniversary of their deaths, the governor issued a statement in which he expressed solidarity with the parents of the Peshawar Army Public School students who were slain on December 16, 2014.

He stated that the entire nation shared the sadness of the families of the APS martyrs.
