The hospital, established in the former commissioner’s residence, originated from Lt. Col. Henry Percy’s residency in 1901. Initially spanning 61 Kanals, the Punjab government in 2004 allocated the land for a Cardiac Center, completed in 2006, with a total area of 250,000 sq. ft and a cost of approximately Rs. 1373.758 million. Initially named Multan Institute of Cardiology, it was later renamed Ch. Pervaiz Elahi Institute of Cardiology Multan.
With a population of 160 million, Pakistan had three existing Institutes of Cardiology in Karachi, Rawalpindi, and Lahore. The need for an independent cardiac center in South Punjab, serving 30-40 million people, led to the establishment of this center. It extends services to adjacent regions and was later renamed. Construction included the main hospital building, nursing and doctors hostels, providing a total bed capacity of 279.
To meet the growing demand, a new Outpatient Department (OPD) and Inpatient Block are under construction. These additions aim to enhance the efficiency of providing preventive and curative cardiac care services.
