Chairman HEC Sindh Launches 18th Degree Show

“SABS University Hosts 18th Degree Show, Chairman HEC Sindh Inaugurates Event”

Shaheed Allah Buksh Soomro (SABS) University of Art, Design, and Heritage in Jamshoro held its 18th Degree Show, featuring an array of artistic expressions ranging from paintings, sculptures, and fabric designs to ceramics, building models, and advertisement concepts.

Chairman of the Higher Education Commission (HEC) Sindh, Dr. S. M. Tarique Rafi, inaugurated the exhibition alongside Secretary HEC Sindh Moinuddin Siddiqui, SABS Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Arabella Bhutto, Vice-Chancellor of SUFI University Bhitshah Prof. Dr. Parveen Munshi, and other dignitaries.

Dr. Rafi commended the students’ creativity, expressing that their artistry not only nurtures their entrepreneurial spirit but also contributes positively to the nation’s image.

He highlighted the comparatively lower fee structure in Sindh universities, mentioning the significant financial support Sindh allocates to its universities compared to other provinces. Dr. Rafi emphasized the uniform criteria for appointments adopted by Sindh HEC from HEC Islamabad for higher education institutions, ensuring transparency in administrative processes.

Prof. Dr. Arabella Bhutto emphasized the university’s commitment to fostering peace, prosperity, and positivity through art and design, underscoring the symbiotic relationship between creativity, innovation, and societal impact.

Dr. Bhutto stressed the importance of both art and science in society, asserting that creativity and innovation thrive best when they complement each other.

Dr. Rafi also laid the foundation stone for a foreign faculty hostel at SABS University, emphasizing the university’s commitment to academic growth and global engagement.

The Degree Show featured Fine Arts students’ displays, exploring diverse themes such as fear, marriage, childhood struggles, depth beyond appearances, and the interplay between art and belief systems, showcasing the students’ artistic prowess and social commentary.
