KMU Admission 2024

Khyber Medical University Institute of Medical Sciences (KMU-IMS), located in Kohat, originated from the vision and implementation of Kohat University of Science and Technology (KUST). In 2005, under the directive of the then Chancellor KUST/Governor KPK, Syed Iftekhar Hussain Shah, the KUST syndicate decided to establish the pioneering Institute of Medical Sciences. KMU-IMS was inaugurated on April 6, 2006, by the then Governor of KPK, Mr. Khalil-ur-Rehman. It was later relocated to Khyber Medical University Peshawar as a constituent Institute on November 25, 2011, as per the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Health Department Notification No. SOH/3-3/KMU dated 25.11.2011. The Pakistan Medical Commission (PMC), Islamabad duly recognizes the Institute.

Situated in the developed area of Kohat Development Authority (KDA), KMU-IMS is just an hour’s drive from the provincial capital, Peshawar. While the university’s main campus is in Peshawar, the institute is currently housed within the DHQ Hospital, KDA, Kohat, with a new purpose-built facility under construction. Liaqat Memorial Hospital (LMH) and Divisional Headquarter (DHQ) Hospital, both with a capacity of 500 beds, have been designated as teaching hospitals for KMU-IMS by the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. These hospitals are well-equipped, featuring nursing wards catering to various patient needs and operation theaters, radiology, and diagnostic laboratories. They are also accredited by the College of Physicians & Surgeons (CPSP), Pakistan, for FCPS training in several disciplines.

The KMUJ (Khyber Medical University Journal), an official journal recognized by PMC, HEC, and CPSP, is published quarterly from KMU-IMS, Kohat. Additionally, the establishment of the Family Medicine Department at KMU-IMS, Kohat, has been sanctioned in the 24th meeting of the Academic Council held at Khyber Medical University, Peshawar, on November 2, 2021. Plans for nursing education and postgraduate studies (M.Phil/Ph.D. and MD/MS) are also in the pipeline.
