New Release Journal of Nursing & Allied Health Sciences
RAWALPINDI: Rawalpindi Medical University (RMU) has taken a significant step in enhancing nursing studies by becoming the exclusive institution in Punjab to introduce the Journal of Nursing and Allied Health Sciences.
Prof. Dr. Mohammad Umer, Vice Chancellor of RMU, highlighted the launch of this journal as a step toward fostering research-focused training within the nursing curriculum. The inception of the Nursing & Allied Health Journal aims to pave the way for a PhD program in nursing.
Addressing the need for improvement in Allied Health Sciences, Prof. Dr. Umer mentioned RMU’s implementation of a research-oriented and competency-based curriculum in this field.
He emphasized that efforts are underway to facilitate Allied Health Sciences students in enrolling for a PhD program, seeking approval from the Higher Education Commission (HEC) for this initiative. Additionally, RMU stands as the only medical university in Pakistan publishing a Health & Climate Journal alongside a Student, Resident & Faculty Journal.
Regarding Pakistan’s healthcare challenges, Dr. Umer highlighted the scarcity of trained healthcare professionals, indicating a need for improvement. He underlined RMU’s pioneering role in initiating the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program and pursuing approval for the Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) program from HEC.
Furthermore, RMU has initiated diploma programs in endoscopy, critical care, and mental health, with plans to extend these offerings to include emergency and pediatrics diplomas in the near future.
