President Champions Inclusive Education for Children with Disabilities
President Arif Alvi advocates equal educational opportunities for all children, irrespective of physical abilities or socio-economic status, urging the promotion of inclusive education nationwide. He calls upon private schools and welfare organizations to collaborate with governments in ensuring accessible education, especially for Children with Disabilities (CWDs).
During a meeting at the Governor House in Karachi with representatives from private schools and NGOs, the President emphasized the necessity of an inclusive curriculum catering to diverse learning styles, particularly for students with different abilities (SWDs).
He stressed the importance of physically adapting educational institutions for SWDs by installing ramps, elevators, and essential facilities. Additionally, President Alvi urged stakeholders to draft a comprehensive framework on Inclusive Education, encompassing easy access for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in schools and providing special education training for private school teachers.
Highlighting the need for consensus among the government, private sector, and NGOs, he urged constant engagement between Sindh’s School Education Department, the Department of Empowerment of PWDs, private schools, and NGOs for inclusive education initiatives.
The President encouraged private schools to align their practices with the existing legal framework on PWDs, suggesting a review of the National Book Foundation’s syllabus on Inclusive Education from grades one to eight. Minister Madad Ali Sindhi echoed the need to enhance school conditions nationwide, acknowledging President Alvi and the First Lady for championing the cause of inclusive education in Pakistan.
Earlier, President Alvi received a briefing on Inclusive Education from the Secretary of Sindh’s Department of Empowerment of PWDs.
