SHRC Initiates Action on Larkana’s School Neglect
“LARKANA: SHRC Chief Urges Upgrading of School Infrastructure Using SMC Funds”
Sindh Human Rights Commission’s chairperson, Iqbal Ahmed Detho, highlighted the poor condition of school buildings in Larkana district and pressed education department officials to utilize School Management Committees’ funds to solarize these structures. Following visits to various schools in the district, Detho emphasized the constitutional right to education (Article 25(a)) and reaffirmed SHRC’s commitment to upholding human rights within national and international legal frameworks.
During a meeting with education officers from Larkana, including directors and district education officers, Detho highlighted the lack of basic facilities in many schools, where students were studying without access to electricity or solar power. He cited specific examples from Mahota village, Jatt Bhutta, Sallar Bhutta, Nazar Detho village, and Naudero town, emphasizing the urgent need for improvement.
Moreover, Detho urged the activation of School Management Committees and stressed the importance of empowering local communities and philanthropists as outlined in the Sindh Right to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2013. He outlined SHRC’s broader goal of enhancing educational standards and community engagement for a more comprehensive upliftment.
