The government and HEC have agreed to solve university issues
In Peshawar, an accord was reached between the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government and the Higher Education Commission to collaboratively tackle the financial and administrative hurdles plaguing public sector universities within the province.
This understanding unfolded during a convened meeting chaired by caretaker Chief Minister retired Justice Syed Arshad Hussain Shah. The session witnessed the participation of the HEC chairman, pertinent ministers, and administrative secretaries, as highlighted in an official statement released on Saturday.
Discussions revolved around the fiscal intricacies and administrative challenges faced by the province’s public universities, exploring strategies to navigate through the ongoing financial turmoil. A significant consensus emerged, stipulating that government grants to these universities would be contingent upon their improved financial governance.
Furthermore, the meeting resolved to speed up appointing vice-chancellors for the public sector universities within the province.
In principle, the attendees supported the notion of merging university campuses with lower enrollment figures. Additionally, they endorsed the introduction of courses aligned with contemporary market demands, prioritizing the implementation of enhanced educational methodologies within higher educational institutions.
The caretaker chief minister emphasized the imperative need for a holistic and enduring solution to address the financial woes encountered by government universities in the province. He underscored ongoing efforts, emphasizing collaborative endeavors with all stakeholders to resolve these issues.
Expressing commitment, he underscored the necessity of formulating and executing sustainable financial strategies to ensure the fiscal stability and autonomy of public sector universities. Aligning the higher education sector with the evolving global landscape was stressed, advocating for market-oriented courses over traditional education within these academic institutions.
The caretaker provincial government reaffirmed its dedication to exhaust all avenues in resolving these pressing concerns within the higher education sector.
