The significance of skill-based education is emphasized

The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in Pakistan is dedicated to integrating life skills-based education (LSBE) into the country’s curriculum. With an estimated 22.8 million children out of school, the UNFPA Deputy Representative sought collaboration from education departments to enhance educational opportunities.

A validation workshop titled ‘Out of School Adolescents and Young People in Pakistan’ was conducted at the Pakistan Institute of Education (PIE) in Islamabad. Representatives from various provinces and regions, including education, special education, and social welfare departments, participated. The UNFPA collaborated closely with federal and provincial education departments to develop a comprehensive LSBE roadmap and advocacy outreach strategy. The validation workshop aimed to ensure collective ownership and support for all aspects of LSBE strategy in Pakistan.

During the workshop, Special Secretary of Education Mohyuddin Wani encouraged a supportive approach rather than a coercive one within departments. He emphasized empowering school management, suggesting cost-effective interventions to address educational challenges.

UNFPA’s Programmer Officer, Rabia Pasha, highlighted the absence of LSBE in the curriculum and emphasized its integration into schools. The workshop emphasized the roadmap for implementing LSBE in educational institutions.

Ms. Pasha expressed hope that the strategy, devised collaboratively, would improve school retention, 111and foster new enrollments in Pakistan.

Anzaira Roxas, a UNFPA Consultant, played a pivotal role in developing the roadmap for out-of-school children in Pakistan. She shared insights on implementing the LSBE curriculum for these children and discussed the future roadmap for its success. Participants engaged in discussions to address potential obstacles and refine the strategy.
